Israel’s Silence On The Armenian Genocide (1915-16)
Israel’s decision not to formally recognize The Armenian Genocide is primarily driven by pragmatic concerns related to its relationships with Turkey and Azerbaijan.
Israel maintains close ties with Azerbaijan, Armenia’s neighboring country and a key energy supplier. Azerbaijan is a Muslim-majority nation with significant political tension with Armenia, particularly over the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
Israel has supplied military equipment to Azerbaijan and, in return, receives vital oil imports. Recognizing the Armenian Genocide could strain this crucial geopolitical relationship.
While it is a historical fact that the Armenian Genocide occurred, Israel’s silence on the matter stems from immediate existential concerns, not denial.
On behalf of God’s chosen nation many Israelis extend their apology for the current silence.
