New COVID-19 variant JN.1 now makes up 44% of U.S. cases, CDC says

A new, fast-spreading COVID-19 variant named JN.1 now makes up 44% of all cases nationwide, more than doubling its share from the week before, according to data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
