“1984” by George Orwell is a dystopian novel set in a totalitarian society ruled by the Party, led by the figurehead Big Brother. The story follows Winston Smith, a low-ranking member of the Party, who secretly despises the oppressive regime and dreams of rebellion. The Party exerts total control over every aspect of life, including thoughts, through constant surveillance, propaganda, and the manipulation of history. Winston’s forbidden relationship with Julia and his eventual capture and torture by the Party reveal the terrifying power of the state to crush individual freedom and control reality itself. The novel explores themes of totalitarianism, censorship, and the dangers of absolute power.
